A High-Efficiency Solar Still Utilizing a Static Three-Position Fresnel Lens System

This study investigates the improvement of classic single-slope solar stills to address the pressing need for energy-free drinking water in rural regions. A theoretical examination was conducted on a novel design utilizing a fixed three-position Fresnel lens system. The employed method involved rigorous comparative simulations, using SolidWorks for design and ZEMAX for comprehensive optical analysis. Configurations both with and without the Fresnel lens were examined. This innovative technology effectively concentrates sunlight on the still, particularly at midday, resulting in a significant efficiency increase of 284.3%. This focused energy collection led to an extraordinary 926% enhancement in the daily production of distilled water, marking a major advancement in sustainable water purification.
