Benjamin Dudley (1785–1870) was a distinguished physician from Virginia who successfully passedthe entrance examination for the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his Doctor of Medicinedegree in 1806. Subsequently, he expanded his medical knowledge through studies at variousesteemed institutions across Europe. In 1814, Dudley returned to Lexington, Kentucky, where heestablished himself as a prominent physician and surgeon within the community. In 1817, he foundedthe Department of Medicine at Transylvania University, assuming the role of Professor of Anatomyand Surgery, to which he dedicated his professional career. Dudley gained prominence for hisextensive expertise in lithotomy, meticulously documenting his clinical cases and experiences in asignificant treatise entitled *The Nature and Treatment of Calculous Diseases* (1836). He alsoauthored an important article on head injuries in 1828, further contributing to the advancement ofmedical knowledge.
