The metal salt (Zn) and linker (BDC=1,4-benzodicarboxylate) combine to form MOF-5, a metal-organic framework (MOF). It was initially synthesized by Omar Mons Yaghi's team in 1999 and is an important metal-organic framework and has been intensely studied, especially in drug delivery, sensing, catalysis, and adsorption/separation applications as a result of its exceptional flexibility and porous architecture. Solvothermal, non-solvothermal, electrochemical, microwave-assisted synthesis, and sonochemical processes are among the numerous synthesis methods that may be employed to generate MOF-5. This study aimed to appraise the methods employed for the synthesis of MOF-5 and its various applications.
