Heat stress is one of the significant threats to goat production in arid and semi-arid areas, which results into oxidative stress and immunosuppression. The application of Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MOLE) and turmeric (Curcuma longa) as supplements on immune parameters and antioxidant enzyme activities of Shami (Damascus) goats under heat stress was examined. Twenty-four adult Shami goats (2-3 years, 35+-3 kg) were distributed randomly in four groups (n=6): Control (CON), MOLE-supplemented (MO, 3 percent of dry matter intake), turmeric-supplemented (TUR, 2 percent of DMI) and combined supplementation (MO+TUR). The test took 60 days on a summer day ( TemperatureHumidity Index 82-92). Antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx), pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-a), lymphocyte subpopulations (CD4+, CD8+), immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM) and heat shock proteins (HSP70, HSP90) were analyzed using blood samples collected after every 2 weeks. MO+TUR markedly enhanced SOD (MO+TUR 93.40+-2.1 U/mL) CAT (55.03+-1.8 U/mL) and GPx (15.03+-0.5 U/mL) activities in comparison to MO+TUR. The IL-6 went down to 22.1+-1.9 pg/mL (MO+TUR) versus 45.3+-3.2 pg/mL (CON) and TNF- a to 18.4+-1.7 pg/mL (P<0.001). The ratio of CD4+/CD8+ improved 1.2+-0.1 (CON) and 1.8+-0.1 (MO+TUR). The expression rate of HSP70 has gone up 2.3 times in the groups being supplemented. IgG levels were raised to 12.3+-0.8 to 16.8+-0.9mg/mL (P<0.05). A combination of M. oleifera and turmeric supplement was effective in the reduction of heat stress by improving antioxidant defensive mechanisms, inflammatory reaction, and cellular and humoral resistance against infections in Shami goats.
