Metaverse applications have digitized many real-world activities, making them accessible virtually. The successful implementation of Metaverse applications and services depends on scalability, reliability, and possible deep immersion. To address these challenges, leveraging cloud resources and adopting the concept of Metaverse-as-a-Service (MaaS) has been presented as a practical solution. In this study, we propose two cloud-based architectures for implementing key enabling technologies of the Metaverse: Digital Twins (DTs) and Augmented Reality (AR). We examine their structural design and operational functionality in detail. Evaluation results indicate that the proposed architectures effectively meet the key features required for a suitable Metaverse platform, including scalability, Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration, and immersive user experiences. These architectures enable Metaverse service providers to optimize essential platform features while taking advantage of modern cloud capabilities to enhance Metaverse applications.
