Photovoltaic Farm Site Selection using Fuzzy Multi Criteria Evolution with Emphasis on Air Quality and Environmental Conditions

The increasing demand for renewable energy highlights the necessity of identifying suitable locations for the construction of PV farms. factors such as air quality and environmental pollutants can have a significant impact on the performance of photovoltaic systems. Therefore, this study aims to identify promising areas for the construction of PV farms by proposing a combined approach that includes GIS and integrates AHP, WLC and Fuzzy Modeling for evaluating and selecting optimal locations. In this study, in addition to criteria such as slope, orientation, elevation, distance from roads, and distance from urban areas, climatic factors and air quality, including solar radiation potential, the number of dusty and cloudy days, humidity, and atmospheric pollutants like SO2, NO2, CO, and aerosols, were considered as parameters influencing the performance of photovoltaic systems. Additionally, constraint layers such as protected areas, water resources, and wetlands were included in the analysis. The main innovation of this research lies in the simultaneous consideration of climatic and environmental criteria (such as air quality and pollutants) along with economic and technical factors, which have been less emphasized in previous studies, and the use of fuzzy modeling in the site selection process to enhance the accuracy of assessments. The results of the study show that the combination of WLC and MCDM methods effectively aids in simulating and evaluating the potential for PV farm deployment. The northern regions of Hormozgan Province, particularly the cities of Hajiabad, Farghan, and Ziarat Ali, have been identified as the best locations for establishing PV farms.
