Investigating the Role of BRCA2 Gene in Predicting Prostate Cancer Progression in Tehran Hospitals in 2021-2024

Introduction: Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, and genetic mutations in various genes play a significant role in its progression. The BRCA2 gene, a tumor suppressor gene, is associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of BRCA2 mutations in predicting prostate cancer progression in Iranian patients. Methods: This study included 250 prostate cancer patients treated in Tehran hospitals between 2020 and 2023. We used polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect BRCA2 mutations and DNA sequencing to confirm them. Results: The results showed that 18% of patients had a BRCA2 mutation associated with an older mean age at diagnosis, higher metastasis rate on MRI imaging, and shorter survival. Also, mutations in the aforementioned gene are associated with specific clinical features and more aggressive progression of prostate cancer.Conclusion: The integration of genetic testing and imaging provides valuable tools for the prediction and management of prostate cancer, especially in Iranian patients.
