چکیده

The catalytic performance of the previously reported sulfur-containing Zn(II) coordination polymer Zn-bbit-CP (bbit = 1,1-bis(3-methyl-4-imidazoline-2-thione)butane) was investigated for the heterogeneous synthesis of 2-aryl-1H-benzimidazole derivatives through the one-pot condensation of substituted benzaldehydes with o-phenylenediamine under mild reaction conditions. Excellent catalytic activity was observed, affording the desired benzimidazole products in yields of up to 96% within short reaction times at room temperature using ethanol as a green solvent. The heterogeneous catalyst was readily recovered by centrifugation and reused for at least three consecutive cycles with only a minor loss of activity. The combination of high efficiency, operational simplicity, and recyclability demonstrates the potential of Zn-bbit-CP as a sustainable catalyst for benzimidazole synthesis. These findings further highlight the promise of sulfur-containing coordination polymers as versatile platforms for green and recyclable catalytic transformations.
