Study of Optimum Conditions and Characterization for Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Zamioculcas Zamiifolia Leaves Extract and Using Its Against Bacterial Pathogens

This study focuses on the eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using an aqueous extract derived from the leaves of Zamioculcas zamiifolia as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent. Silver was selected due to its well-known antimicrobial properties and its favorable physicochemical characteristics that enhance its suitability for biosynthesis. A fixed ratio of plant extract to silver nitrate solution was employed, with the formation of nanoparticles visually confirmed by a distinct colour change from pale yellow to brown, indicating surface plasmon resonance. To determine the optimal synthesis conditions, UV-visible spectrophotometry was utilised. The resulting AgNPs were further characterised using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). These techniques confirmed the formation of crystalline, spherical nanoparticles with sizes ranging between 23 and 65 nm. Antibacterial activity, assessed through the agar well diffusion method, revealed significant inhibitory effects against Acinetobacter baumannii and Escherichia coli, suggesting potential biomedical applications.
