چکیده

Background and objectives: This study investigated the systemic and topical hemostatic effect of Sanguisorba minor Scop. in an in vivo model. Methods: The methanol extract (80%) obtained from the aerial parts of the plant was administered to 30 male Wistar rats at doses of 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg over 7 days. It was also evaluated based on its topical efficacy. Results: Bleeding time was significantly decreased in all three doses compared to the positive and negative control groups in a dose-dependent manner. Blood loss (g) in all treated groups was significantly lower than that of the negative control group, and the best result was observed in the 800 mg/kg group. However, no significant differences were observed when compared with tranexamic acid (TA). Similarly, there were no significant differences between the treated and positive control groups for prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), platelet count, and fibrinogen levels. Conclusion: Topical and systemic administration of S. minor extract demonstrated hemostatic effects in rats; however, further research is required to determine the precise mechanism of action.
