Perfusion Index: Identifying the Optimal Finger for Accurate Measurement

چکیده

   Background and Objectives: Perfusion index is a relative evaluation of the pulse’s infrared signal strength returning from the monitoring site. The goal of this study is to determine the most acceptable value among fingers in the measurement of perfusion index.   Methods: After approval, this prospective observational study was conducted with 107 participants. Healthy subjects were placed in a room, and blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and oxygen satura-tion were recorded. Perfusion index was simultaneously measured on all fingers of one hand (first the right, then the left) for at least five minutes. Comparisons were performed using repeated measures ANOVA test, and factor analysis was conducted to assess the perfusion index measure-ments to find the most relevant item obtained from the fingers.   Results: The highest mean perfusion index value was 3.68±2.84 in the right ring finger, while the lowest one was 2.34±1.81 in the right thumb. The right ring finger has an intermediate effect size of 0.111 and observed power of 0.949 compared to mean perfusion index value of all fingers (P < 0.01). Right middle finger and left ring finger have factor loadings of 0.838 and 0.822, respectively.   Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that perfusion index has the highest value on the right and left ring finger, those could be used to measure perfusion index on right hand dominance individuals.
