Evaluation Genes and Molecular Pathway Related Inflammation in Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery: Future Perspective

Background and Objectives: Recent evidence indicate that bariatric surgery reduces inflammation in obese individuals. However, comprehensive investigations using a systems biology approach to explore gene expression changes post-bariatric surgery for inflammation reduction remain lacking. Thus, this study aims to address this gap.   Methods: GSE59034 dataset was used to obtain genes patients related bariatric surgery. The protein-protein interaction of the DEGs was designed by STRING database and visualized using Cytoscape. Hub genes were determined using the Cytohubba plugin of Cytoscape. Finally, the Kaplan-Meier plotter was used to investigate the overall survival of patients with OC according to the hub genes.   Results: PPI network and hub gene analyses identified eight hub genes, including IL-10, TLR2, CCL2, CYBB, IL-18, and IL-10RA. Finally, overall survival analysis using the Kaplan-Meier plotter showed that all hub genes were related to the patients survival.   Conclusion: Understanding pathways associated with hub gene expression informs treatment strategies. Additionally, exploring pathways activated by hub genes aids inflammation management post-surgery.
