Spine Surgery in Patients with Scoliosis and Kyphosis: A Systematic Review

Scoliosis or lateral curvature of the spine is a condition in which the spine undergoes curvature and rotation. In the present study, a systematic review of spine surgery in patients with scoliosis and kyphosis has been done. Fifty various studies have been conducted in this field and its various aspects have been investigated. A study published between 2014 and 2024 looked at the increased risk of cardiovascular disease within 13 years of cancer patients finishing treatment. The present study investigated the issue by reviewing articles with keywords including "Scoliosis”, “kyphosis”, “Spine surgery”, and “Patient with abnormality” in Scopus, Google scholar, and PubMed. With this rotation and curvature, the muscles and the chest are also displaced and changed. The choice of treatment depends on the severity of the deviation and the age of the person. In very mild cases, this complication may not require treatment, but usually in the treatment of relatively mild and moderate scoliosis, bracing and physical therapy are performed. In 45 extracted articles, the effect of three-dimensional and Schroth exercises on Cobb's angle, pain, muscle endurance, chest volume, respiratory function, appearance and self-satisfaction, trunk deformities, weight distribution, and quality of life of patients were investigated. The use of three-dimensional and Schroth exercises leads to the improvement of Cobb's angle, pain, muscle endurance, chest volume, appearance and self-satisfaction, trunk deformities, weight distribution, respiratory function, and quality of life of patients.
