Neurodegenerative illnesses, such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, have been linked to the pathogenesis of chronic stress. Comprehending the complex interplay of stress, glucocorticoids, and neurodegeneration is essential for identifying potential treatment targets. The influence of chronic stress on neurodegenerative illnesses was investigated by comprehensive literature review, with an emphasis on the physiological, molecular, and epigenetic processes at play. Studies on the impact of stress on glucocorticoid regulation, hippocampal susceptibility, and epigenetic changes were evaluated. Chronic stress and increased glucocorticoid levels were shown to intensify neurodegenerative mechanisms, leading to cognitive deficits, neuronal degeneration, and synaptic dysfunction. Epigenetic alterations resulting from early-life stress were recognized as significant determinants of susceptibility to neurodegenerative disorders. The results show how glucocorticoids, neurodegeneration, and chronic stress interact in complex ways. Focusing on stress-related pathways and epigenetic processes may offer therapeutic opportunities in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's illnesses.
