چکیده

Schizophrenia is a complex psychiatric disorder characterized by a diverse range of symptoms, including hallucinations, delusions, and cognitive impairments. Emerging research suggests that biochemical imbalances play a central role in its pathophysiology, with particular focus on the MTHFR C677T polymorphism, riboflavin metabolism, and trace elements such as zinc and copper. These factors may disrupt methylation processes and lead to neurochemical imbalances, which, in turn, affect neurotransmitter systems and contribute to oxidative stress in the brain. This review examines the biochemical mechanisms underlying schizophrenia and discusses the critical role of nursing care in managing these biochemical disruptions. This article aims to examine the biochemical pathways related to schizophrenia, focusing on the importance of riboflavin in MTHFR C677T-related pathways, the impact of the MTHFR 677 TT genotype, and the roles of trace elements and vitamins in these mechanisms. In addition, the article examines nursing interventions that can help support patients in managing these biochemical imbalances. A Thorough review of the literature was conducted, synthesizing findings on biochemical markers in schizophrenia, including research on riboflavin derivatives, zinc, copper, and the MTHFR C677T genotype. The article also evaluates the roles of nursing interventions in addressing these biochemical challenges. The findings suggest that the MTHFR C677T genotype, particularly the homozygous TT variant, may affect the bioavailability of key vitamins and cofactors, such as riboflavin and vitamin B6, which are crucial for methylation processes. Additionally, trace elements like zinc and copper are associated with altered MTHFR activity, contributing to neurochemical imbalances. These disruptions may increase oxidative stress, resulting in neuroinflammation and cognitive dysfunction. Nursing care plays a vital role in managing these biochemical disturbances by supporting medication adherence, providing psychosocial care, and educating patients on dietary interventions. Schizophrenia is shaped by complex biochemical pathways, with MTHFR-related gene polymorphisms, riboflavin metabolism, and trace element imbalances playing a role in disease progression. Nurses are crucial in addressing these biochemical imbalances through holistic care, supporting medication adherence, educating patients, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for optimal management. Further research into these biochemical markers is crucial for enhancing our understanding of schizophrenia and improving treatment strategies.
