Assessing the needs of users of information systems in 11 Isfahan University Hospitals

Background and objective: Since effective decisions making requires accurate accessible and timely information in hospitals, the present study was conducted aimed to investigate the information needs of users of the selected information systems in Isfahan hospitals. Methods: The present applied study was conducted by qualitative method using a content analysis approach to identify the selected information system's users from January to June 2022. The participants all users of GHASEDAK, AVAB and SEPAS information systems in Isfahan teaching hospitals. which selected purposefully from different levels such as senior and middle management level and various departments such as information technology, human resources, medical record and financial unit with maximum variety. Then it was conducted 72 interviews so that data saturation was reached, the data were collected by semi-structured interviews and entered MAXQDA version 10 and analyzed by content analysis. Results: The information needs of the medical record managers were divided in 4 groups including process data (2 subgroups), clinical data (1 subgroup), statistical data (2 subgroups) and personnel data (2 subgroups). The information needs of senior managers were divided in 2 groups including administrative data (2 subgroups) and statistical data (2 subgroups). The financial managers' information needs were divided in 2 groups of financial data (one subgroup) and personnel data (2 subgroups). The information needs of human resources managers were included one group of personnel data (3 sub-groups). The information needs of medical equipment staff were divided in 3 groups of administrative data (2 sub-groups), financial data (2 sub-groups) and technical data (2 sub-groups). The information needs of IT manager were divided in 3 groups of administrative data (1 subgroup), functional data (1 subgroup) and error report (2 subgroups). The information needs of supervisors were divided in 2 groups of management data (2 subgroups) and statistical reports (2 subgroups). The information needs of head nurses were divided in a group of statistical reports (4 subgroups). The information needs of the statistician were included a group of statistical reports (5 subgroups). Conclusion: In this survey, it was identified various information needs for the selected information systems' users in Isfahan teaching hospitals. Hence, the hospital contract party software companies might benefit from these results to develop the information systems in next step with considering the information needs of the users.
