The effect of textual context in specification of grammatical inflections and causative letters

The commentators have emphasized the importance of grammatical inflections in explanation and interpretation of the Quranic verses. Due to this importance, numerous books have been written on the grammatical inflections in the Quran. However, examination of these books reveal that when discussing the grammatical inflection of a word in a verse, sometimes the authors mention different aspects of the grammatical inflection or various causative letters for the intended word. The present study has set out to examine the opinions of the Noble Quran exegetes, grammarians, and grammar inflection specialists who have expressed different aspects of grammatical inflections in some verses. To this end, a descriptive-analytical method has been adopted. This study tries to answer the question that if one aspect of the grammatical inflection of a verse can be prioritized over the other aspects in the light of an indication or reason, and if we can adopt only onecausative letter from among the different causative letters mentioned for a certain word? In the light of the relationship that exists between syntax and meaning, and based on the evidences and proofs provided in the text, we can conclude that textual context – as the only accompanying linguistic indication – can be effective on specifying onlyone of the aspects of the grammatical inflection and causative letter from among different ones. Moreover, we might contend that some exegetes and grammatical inflection specialists of the Noble Quran, such as IbnInbari and 'Akbari have specified the grammatical inflections and the causative letters in the light of the textual context.
