Phytochemicals and Anti-Cancer Potential of Liliaceae Medicinal Plants: A Comprehensive Review

چکیده

The Liliaceae family includes various medicinal plants recognized for their significant pharmacological attributes. The study examines the anti-cancer properties of prominent species from the Liliaceae family, including Allium sativum, Aloe barbadensis, Asparagus racemosus, Allium cepa, Bessera elegans, Colchicum autumnale, Fritillaria thunbergii, Lilium candidum, and Smilax glabra. These plants are rich in bioactive phytochemicals, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, and organosulfur compounds, as well as carotenoids, lectins, and phenolic acids. These phytochemicals have the potential to prevent cancer through mechanisms such as cell cycle halting, cell death induction, angioplasty suppression, and signaling pathway regulation. Through an examination of recent developments in phytochemical studies and preclinical and clinical research, this study highlights the therapeutic benefits and promise of these plants in the treatment of cancer. The Liliaceae family has several uses in both traditional and contemporary medicine, which emphasizes their value as a source for developing novel anti-cancer drugs. The aim of this review is to clarify the anti-cancer properties of plants in the Liliaceae family and encourage further study in this area.
