Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using green algae Pectin for Efficient Photocatalytic Activity

This study utilized pectin extracted from green algae to synthesize environmentally friendly silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The identity of the pectin was verified using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). A variety of methods, such as ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and FT-IR, were used to characterize the synthesized AgNPs. These characterizations revealed that the AgNPs were crystalline and had a spherical shape, with an average size of about 13 nm. The photocatalytic activity of the AgNPs was evaluated through the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and the degradation of methylene blue (MB). The reduction of 4-NP was observed using UV-Vis spectroscopy and was completed in just 15 minutes, while the degradation of MB was achieved within 10 minutes. These findings demonstrate the significant potential of pectin-based AgNPs for effectively removing organic pollutants. These pollutants are commonly found in industrial wastewater and pose significant environmental concerns.
