Development and Antimicrobial Assessment of New Azo-Based Dihydropyrimidine Compounds

The overall goal of this research is to investigate possible approaches to address the issue of microbial resistance, which has become a global health emergency. The synthesis of novel heterocyclic compounds with appropriate biological characteristics is one practical remedy. Several novel azo compounds, including dihydropyrimidine derivatives, were designed and synthesized through the formation of diazonium salts and their coupling with phenol and 2, 6-dimethylphenol. The antimicrobial activities of these compounds were studied against five microorganisms, and all synthesized compounds exhibited mild to good antimicrobial activity. As a result, almost all the synthesized substances might be excellent candidates for clinical treatments and could help avert potential issues with medication resistance. The structures of all products were characterized using elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and both 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral data.
