Background: Statins are a class of lipid-lowering drugs mainly used to reduce cholesterol levels and prevent cardiovascular diseases. However, growing evidence suggests that these drugs also possess anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, making them potentially effective in treating various skin conditions. This study aims to investigate the effect of statins on several skin diseases, including psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, acne, seborrhea, and rosacea.Methods: A comprehensive review of articles published in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted. Recent articles investigating the effects of statins on skin diseases were reviewed.Results: The findings indicate that statins, through anti-inflammatory effects and cytokine reduction, can reduce the severity of diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. Additionally, they help reduce skin oiliness and control acne and seborrhea. Some studies have also shown improvement in rosacea symptoms by modulation inflammatory pathways.Conclusion: Statins can be considered for treating skin diseases due to their anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. However, more clinical studies are necessary to confirm their efficacy and establish appropriate dosage. These findings could provide a novel approach to managing inflammatory skin diseases.
