Synthesis of 4-((Aryl)imino)-3,4-dihydroquinazoline-2(1H)-thione Derivatives

A simple and straightforward approach to access biologically important quinazoline family, namely, 3,4-dihydroquinazoline-2(1H)-thiones from 2-amino-N'-arylbenzimidamide derivatives with carbon disulfide via nucleophilic reaction has been described. First, we synthesized 2-amino-Nˊ-arylbenzimidamide derivatives, from reaction of o-aminobenzonitrile and aniline derivatives. Then these intermediates have been used for the synthesis of quinazoline-2(1H)-thiones. This novel strategy provides synthesis of 3,4-dihydroquinazoline-2(1H)-thiones under mild reaction conditions and catalyst-free in good yields.
