Present study investigates sand production in weakly consolidated oil and gas reservoirs, a critical issue that reduces well productivity, damages equipment, and increases environmental risks. Key factors causing reservoir failure were identified, analyzed, and validated using theoretical models and field data. A classification of factors contributing to near-wellbore degradation is proposed, encompassing geomechanical, chemical, and thermal effects. To quantify their impact, statistical analysis of well operating conditions and sand concentration in the produced fluids was conducted. The results show that sand concentration depends primarily on reservoir pressure, fluid viscosity, and well flow rate, with critical thresholds identified for these parameters, beyond which significant rock failure and sand production occur. Predictive models were developed to estimate sand concentration using operational data. These findings enable optimized sand control strategies, minimizing sand in production fluids, enhancing well productivity, and improving reservoir management for more efficient hydrocarbon extraction with reduced equipment wear and environmental risks. Unlike previous empirical studies, this work offers a comprehensive factor classification and quantitative predictive models, improving accuracy and applicability in reservoir management.
