Unusual progressive Kaposi’s sarcoma: a case report

Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) is a relatively rare malignancy observed in humans. Its precise etiology remains unknown yet, however some potential factors include viral infections- particularly herpes virus- immune suppression, prolonged exposure to oncogenic drugs, and genetic factors. This disease usually occurs in HIV positive patients. The reported case was a 73-year-old female with no history of herpes simplex virus, nor HIV infection no family history, no immunodeficiency, and no use of special medication. Routine laboratory and autoimmune tests, and blood pressure readings were normal. The disease progressed rapidly within two years, culminating in the patient’s death from cardiac arrest just two days after hospitalization. This malignant, aggressive, fatal presentation did not conform to any of the currently defined patterns, suggesting the possibility of additional, as yet unidentified, pathogenic factors.
