Fetal Echocardiographic Findings in Pregnant Women Conceived via Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART)

Background & Objective: Fetal echocardiography is a well-established and sensitive tool for the prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart defects. This study was conducted to determine the findings of fetal echocardiography in infants who were conceived by mothers with Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).Materials & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on all women who were pregnant with assisted reproductive technology and were subjected to echocardiography. The findings of echocardiography and the prevalence of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) were investigated in these mothers. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 26) and t-test and chi-square test. P<0.05 was considered significant.Results: CHD was found in 17 cases (7.4%) and 213 cases (92.6%) did not have CHD. No significant relationship was found between mothers' age, gestational age, multiple births, type of assisted reproduction method, and heart abnormalities (P<0.05).Conclusion: Our data showed an increased prevalence of CHDs after ART with a heterogeneous spectrum of abnormalities, mainly major defects, the most common of which was tetralogy of Fallot and HLHS.
