چکیده
Regional Innovation System (RIS) is a new approach to regional development, which can be used as an essential tool for a stable regional economic development. Key elements of such a system are firms, institutes, regional actors' interactions and intra-regional networking. Due to the intra-firm Characteristics, networking, and interactions with regional actors, firms introduce innovation and contribute to both competitiveness and regional economic development. This article aimed to study the role of the intra-firm Characteristics in improving networking interactions and their capabilities in stimulating innovation in Tabriz Metropolitan Region. To that end, a survey method was employed. Documentary and library data elicitation techniques were also applied to study the existing theoretical principles and approaches in the field. Besides, stratified sampling was used for determining the sample size. The findings show that the general Characteristics of firms, particularly the proportion of the qualified staff to the total workforce, the size of firms and research expenditures respectively, have the most significant effect on innovation introduced by firms. Moreover, it was found that the greater the degree of these indicators (i.e. the intra-firm Characteristics) is, the more intensive the intra-regional networking will be. The findings of this study also indicate that both the intensity of the intra-regional networking in the interactive learning and consequently the innovation capabilities of firms are improved.
