چکیده

Polyethersulfone Membrane (PES) is widely used in the biomedical and medicinal equipment used for the purification of blood, including hemodialysis, due to its high permeability to low molecular weight proteins. However, when it interacts with blood, the proteins quickly adsorb onto the membrane, and the adsorbed protein layer can cause aggregation, coagulation and platelet adhesion. For this reason, it is necessary to innovate to correct the shortcomings of PES membranes by modifying them with hydrophilic polymers. In this research, PES and additives were used in the form of a combination of polyvinylpirrolidone (PVP) and chitosan-Mg(OH)2. This combination is expected to improve membrane quality related to characteristics, hydrophilicity, and biocompatibility. This research aims to obtain a PES-based dialysis membrane that possesses physical, chemical and biocompatibility characteristics. The research stage involves synthesizing a dialysis membrane from PES/PVP with a chitosan-Mg(OH)2 additive using NMP solvent. The SEM results show the membrane has good pores, is uniformly distributed and asymmetrical. The membrane performance is indicated by a water flux value of 17.656 L.m-2.h-1 and a BSA rejection rate of 97.98%. Performance tests on urea cleaning resulted in total membrane cleaning of 58.84%, and creatinine removal of 61.20%. The resulting membrane also has a blood hemolysis value of 0.066%. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the PES membrane modified with PVP/chitosan/Mg(OH)2 can be used as hemodialysis membrane.
