Paget’s disease of bone in a non-endemic region: A case report

Paget's disease of bone (PDB) is a skeletal disorder with increased focal bone resorption accompanied by abundant new bone formation. PDB occurs most frequently in the middle-aged, and men are more likely to be affected than women. PDB is asymptomatic in 70 to 90% of cases. However, in cases where it presents clinically, bone pain is the most common symptom, with pelvis, lumbar vertebrae, femur, thoracic vertebrae and skull being the commonest sites of involvement respectively. Serum alkaline phosphatase rises in about 85-90% of the patients and is also a good marker for assessing the disease status after treatment. In this report, we present an Iranian 59-year-old man who had headache and chest pain and localized tenderness in both sites.
