Magnetic Abrasive Finishing of Workpieces for Anti-friction Bronze Slide Bearing Shells

This article is devoted to evaluating the potential of magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) in the context of its application for the final preparation of surfaces of bronze slide bearing shells. The article lists the main equipment required for conducting experimental studies, and, through simulation in a specialized software environment, provides a rationale for the use of permanent magnets. Prior to the experimental studies, roughness values were obtained for four parameters for each of the processed workpieces. The experimental studies aimed to determine the influence of specific rotational speed and feed rate values on the controlled parameters. After analyzing the results, it was found that the best roughness values were achieved at low and medium processing modes: a rotational speed of 500/750 rpm and a feed rate of 1000/1500 mm/min. Based on the obtained profilograms, it was concluded that the magnetic abrasive finishing method forms a new surface profile that promotes the retention of lubricant in the friction zone.
