The Relationship Between Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Level and Stage and Grade of Breast Cancer in Female Patients Referred to Amir Al-Momenin Hospital, Zabol

Background & Objective: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. Therefore, the present study was conducted with aim to examine the relationship between the serum level of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D and the stage and grade of breast cancer in female patients referred to Amir Al-Momenin Hospital in Zabol in 2023.Materials & Methods: This descriptive and analytic study was conducted in 2023 on 27 cases of breast cancer with 27 matched controls. Information on breast cancer risk factors, vitamin D and calcium supplementation, and previous history of the disease was obtained by completing a general questionnaire. The blood samples were taken from the studied women and the concentration of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D in the serum was measured by quantitative luminescence method. Then, data were recorded and entered SPSS software for statistical analysis and evaluated using chi-square test. P<0.05 was considered significant.Results: In this study, 6 people (22.2%) had mixed invasive ductal, 19(70.4%) had invasive ductal carcinoma, and 2(7.4%) had mucinous carcinoma. In terms of the degree of breast cancer, 3 people (11.1%) were of mild type, 18(66.7%) moderate type and 6 (22.2%) severe type of breast cancer.Conclusion: No significant difference was observed between the serum level of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D and different degrees of breast cancer. Deficiency of vitamin D in women is a health problem that should be addressed by public health professionals.
