چکیده

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a newly formulated air polishing powder (Lotus Air Polishing) composed of biocompatible components and engineered for a particle size of approximately 144.5 nm, concerning its antimicrobial efficacy and surface effects on dental enamel. The formulation incorporates nisin, a natural antimicrobial peptide, to selectively inhibit microbial plaque formation without the adverse effects typically associated with conventional chemical antibacterials. Through a combination of microbiological assessments (disk diffusion and dilution assays) and surface morphology analysis (SEM), the nisin-based formulation was shown to significantly reduce microbial growth while maintaining enamel integrity more effectively than commercial alternatives. Overall, the results suggest that this nisin-containing air polishing powder offers a safer and more effective alternative to conventional products regarding antimicrobial performance, biocompatibility, and dentin preservation.
