Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using plant extracts provides a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional chemical methods. This study utilized leaf extract of Solanum procumbens Lour. (S. procumbens L.), a medicinal plant native to Vietnam, as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent for Ag NPs synthesis. Silver nitrate (Ag NO₃) solutions with final concentrations of 1, 3, 5, and 10 mM were prepared by diluting a 100 mM stock solution in the leaf extract. The reduction reaction, induced by microwave irradiation (800 W, 2450 MHz) for 3 minutes, led to a rapid color change, indicating nanoparticle formation. UV–Vis spectroscopy confirmed the synthesis of Ag NPs with a distinct surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak at 456 nm. SEM analysis revealed spherical to oval nanoparticles, while XRD confirmed their crystalline nature with characteristic diffraction peaks at 2θ = 27.21°, 32.11°, 38.04°, 44.22°, and 64.39°. FTIR analysis suggested the involvement of proteins in the reduction process. The synthesized Ag NPs exhibited antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, including antibiotic-resistant strains. These findings demonstrate the potential of S. procumbens L. as an effective green source for rapid synthesis of bioactive Ag NPs, with promising applications in biomedicine and antimicrobial treatments.
