Development of Nd+3 and Co+2 substituted TiO2 nanoparticles: UV-light supported Photodegradation of Sulfanilic acid azochromotrop

The current paper deals with the study of photocatalytic degradation of sulfanilic acid azochromotrope (SPANDS) dye using Nd- and Co-supported TiO2 photocatalysts. The developed material was characterized by XRD, SEM/EDAX, UV-Visible, PL, and XPS techniques. The increased photocatalytic degradation of Nd/Co-TiO2 over TiO2 could be attributed to an increase in pore diameter, surface area, and oxygen vacancies, as revealed by photoluminescence and BET studies. The dye degradation was maximum (93%) for SPANDS dye. After three cycles, SPANDS dye was decomposed by about 92%, which is analogous to the first cycle's decomposition rate of around 93%. pH investigation indicates that SPANDS breaks down more effectively under neutral conditions (pH=7) than in acidic or basic conditions. The Nd/Co-TiO2 nanocomposite was stable after three degradation cycles and had a greater degradation rate constant ( than TiO2 . Thus, the above results will support experts in developing and producing more effective photocatalytic degradation catalysts.
