A review on recent advances and biomedical applications of zinc oxide decorated nanomaterials

The integration of nanotechnology into material science has led to groundbreaking advancements in the understanding and manipulation of materials. Among the various nanomaterials available, ZnO nanoparticles hold a prominent place due to their broad spectrum of applications in healthcare and biomedicine. ZnO NPs )zinc oxide nanoparticles (have received significant attention worldwide owing to their excellent biocompatibility, minimal toxicity, sustainability, and affordability. Of the different types of metal oxide nanoparticles, ZnO nanoparticles are the most widely utilized, driven by their cost-effectiveness and environmentally friendly nature. The versatility of ZnO nanoparticles, stemming from their distinct physicochemical properties, positions them as a promising material for innovative solutions in healthcare, food safety, and advanced technologies. Their high surface area, optical tunability, and chemical stability further enhance the utility of ZnO nanoparticles in numerous industrial and biomedical fields. In the long term, biological procedures that use green or natural routes are simpler, less harmful, and more environmentally friendly than chemical and/or physical approaches. Researchers worldwide are focusing on ZnO nanoparticles for sustainable and safe applications, leveraging their biocompatibility and low environmental impact. The broad application spectrum of ZnO nanoparticles is underpinned by their ease of synthesis, tunable properties, and demonstrated safety in biological systems. This review highlights various facets of ZnO nanoparticles, including synthetic approaches and biomedical applications such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antipyretic action, hemolytic, antioxidant, anticancer activity, biosensors, and modes of action.
