Heracleum persicum, Persian hogweed, is a commonly used spice in Iran. H. persicum is rich in biological compounds that are employed in the management of various health conditions. In this research, we utilized H. persicum fruit extract to produce silver nanoparticles (HpF-AgNPs). We assessed their biomaterial content and their antioxidant, anticancer, and apoptosis-inducing potential against MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. Results suggest that the optimal reaction medium comprises 5% fruit extract and aqueous AgNO3 at a concentration of 2 mM. Characterization tests, encompassing UV–vis, XRD, FE-SEM, zeta potential, EDX, DLS, and FTIR, validated the ideal morphology, dimensions, and stability of the synthesized HpF-AgNPs under these optimal conditions. The findings showed that HpF-AgNPs possess higher levels of phytochemicals, such as phenolic acids and flavonoids, suggesting that they are potent antioxidants. The suppressive effect of HpF-AgNPs on the growth of MDA-MB-231 cells confirms their antitumor properties. The outcomes of treating MDA-MB-231 cells with HpF-AgNPs revealed an IC50 value of 82.73 μg/mL at 48 hours. This research offers a straightforward, quick, and non-hazardous method for synthesizing HpF-AgNPs. This can be considered an alternative strategy for the safe and straightforward production of AgNPs for biomedical applications.
