Effect of Chemical Solvent Type in Universal Adhesives on Micro Tensile Bond Strength after Immediate and Delayed Dentin Sealing Using the Deep Margin Elevation Technique

Despite advancements in bonding technology, the durability of these bonds remains challenging, mainly due to the complexity of dentin and the influence of matrix enzymes, which lead to bond degradation and collagen fiber breakdown. This study aimed to compare the effect of universal adhesives with different solvents on micro tensile bond strength after immediate and delayed sealing in the Deep Margin Elevation (DME) technique. In this experimental and laboratory study, 150 sound molar teeth without cracks or caries were divided into 10 groups based on the type of solvent (acetone or ethanol) and bonding protocols (IDS and DDS). To measure bond strength, the teeth were sectioned, and microtensile bond strength testing was performed using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM). Data were analyzed using three-way ANOVA (α=0.05). The mean microtensile bond strength was significantly higher in adhesive groups that used acetone as the IDS protocol solvent than in groups with ethanol and the DDS protocol. Statistical analysis revealed that the type of solvent and bonding protocol significantly affected microtensile bond strength (p<0.05), while the technique type did not show a significant effect.  The research indicated that the optimal bond strength of the universal adhesive was attained with acetone solvent and the IDS protocol, while the etching technique did not significantly influence microtensile bond strength.
