The Mediation Role of Narcissistic Personality Traits and Interpersonal Problems in the Relationship between Early Maladaptive Schemas and Anabolic Steroids Use in Athletes

This paper aimed to determine the mediating role of the narcissistic personality traits and interpersonal problems concerning the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and the consumption of anabolic steroids by athletes. 200 people were selected using targeted sampling. The results indicated the narcissistic personality traits to be an intermediary factor between the parameters of other/directedness, over-vigilance, and inhibition and impaired limits and the probability/improbability of steroid consumption. Interpersonal problems to be an intermediary factor between the parameters of disconnection and rejection, over-vigilance, and inhibition, impaired autonomy and performance and impaired limits and the probability/improbability of steroid consumption. Early maladaptive schemas represent a stable vision of oneself that guides behavior. Behaviors such as anabolic steroid consumption in athletes are influenced by the growth experiences of individuals, personality and perceptive constructs. Therefore, the schemas and personality attributes of individuals can be targeted for reducing steroid consumption.
