Innovative Gelatin-Chitin Hydrogel Nanoparticles for Promoting Drug Delivery and Sports Injury Rehabilitation Solutions: Fabrication, Analysis, and Characterization

This study shows an eco-friendly method for synthesizing gelatin-chitin hydrogel nanoparticles aimed at applications in sports injury treatment and rehabilitation. The nanoparticles showed a high drug loading efficiency, achieving 92.5% for doxorubicin and 88.3% for paclitaxel. Release profiles indicated sustained drug delivery, with 85.7% of doxorubicin and 95.2% of paclitaxel released over 72 hours. Characterization revealed that the hydrogels maintained a porosity of 68% at 0% concentration, increasing to 76% at 10% concentration before decreasing to 65% at 15%, which impacted drug diffusion rates. Mechanical testing showed a tensile strength of 1.52 MPa at 10% concentration, showing the microstructural properties of the nanoparticles. In vitro cytotoxicity assays on cancer cell lines showed over 90% cell viability, indicating biocompatibility. Additionally, the nanoparticles effectively detected bisphenol A across a concentration range of 0.1 to 10 µg/mL, showing their potential for environmental monitoring. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) were used to accurately predict the docetaxel and paclitaxel release percentages, achieving less than 1% error in their predictions. These results show the multifunctional potential of gelatin-chitin hydrogel nanoparticles for drug delivery, environmental sensing, and clinical uses. This indicates that gelatin-chitin nanoparticles can present as effective therapeutic agents while also promoting sustainable material synthesis practices. Future work will focus on in vivo studies to further assess their performance in sports rehabilitation and other biomedical applications. This research investigates advanced drug delivery methods to improve rehabilitation from sports injuries, emphasizing targeted therapies that accelerate recovery and enhance treatment effectiveness for athletes.
