Long-term Inhibition of Paraffin Deposits Using Porous Ceramic Proppant Containing Solid Ethylene-vinyl Acetate

This paper addresses the issue of paraffin deposits, specifically focusing on the chemical method of prevention. The effectiveness of the inhibitor used in high-wax oil production is contingent upon its injection point, necessitating deeper placement of the reagent within the “oil reservoir-well” system. The objective of this study is to develop a method for long-term wax inhibition and experimentally evaluate the influence of well operation parameters on the rate of inhibitor release into the production fluid. The article outlines a paraffin inhibition technology that involves the injection of solid porous particles into a hydraulic fracture, which serve a dual purpose as both proppant and an inhibitor source. A method has been developed for saturating porous ceramic particles with solid ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), which is gradually released into the oil flow when washed by the oil, functioning as a depressant. Filtration experiments indicate that this inhibition method provides a long-term, consistent release of inhibitor into the oil flow. The EVA content in the oil sample filtered through the model proppant pack remains above minimum effective concentration level even after filtration 470 pore volumes. Thereby reducing the frequency of interventions aimed at preventing and removing paraffin deposits within the “oil reservoir-well” system.
