Background and Aim: The Samani period was one of the periods of Iranian scientific and cultural advancement in the third and fourth centuries of Hijri. In this period, most common sciences and knowledge, including religious, literary and scientific, had a significant growth and prosperity. One of the main factors of this growth was Samani emirs and ministers’ support of scholars and scientists. Medicine, as one of the branches of science that had a clear brilliance, was effective in the prosperity of the scientific environment of that time. In addition to the emergence of many scientists and their services, many medical works were also authored that he most famous of which is "Al-Tanvir in medical terminology" book by Abu Mansour Al-Qamari Bukhari. The purpose of this research is to explain and analyze the content of Al-Tanvir and its practical role in medical issues of Samani period. Methods: This article is written in a historical way by describing and analyzing data collected from library sources. Ethical Considerations: In the present study, the ethical aspects of library study, including the originality of texts, honesty, and trustworthiness, have been observed. Results: Abu Mansour has introduced and explained medical terms by writing Al-Tanvir as a comprehensive guide. The comprehensiveness of medical terms for the doctors of that period and the choice of Persian language and the simplicity of the description of the terms were useful for the general public of that period and even later periods. Conclusion: From the simplicity and comprehensibility of Al-Tanvir, it can be concluded that this book is suitable for the practical use of beginner doctors and even the general public.
