Assesment the adaptability of Jacaranda mimosifolia L. to Ahvaz climete condition under salinity and water stresses

To enrich the plant diversity of the landscape, introducing new ornamental trees such as Jacaranda tree is a useful solution. Therefore, it is essential to investigate Jacaranda compatibility with the limiting factors of different regions. This research was aimed at elucidating the influence of combined salinity levels (1, 2.5, 4, and 5.5 ds.m -1 NaCl) and low irrigation levels (100, 80, and 60% FC) on the some morpho-physiological characteristics, consist of fresh and dry weight of areal part, relative water content (RWC), malondialdehyde (MDA), electrolyte leakage (EL), sodium (Na) and potassium (K) content of Jacaranda plants under field condition as a factorial experiment based on randomized complete block design with 4 replicates in 2023. The results indicated that, the growth of Jacaranda decreased gradually under both salinity and drought stress depending on the severity of the stress. The fresh and dry weight of the aerial part showed the greatest reduction under 5.5 dS.m⁻¹ NaCl and 60% (FC) compared to 1 dS.m⁻¹ NaCl and 100% FC. Low irrigation as accompanied with salinity significantly affected on EL enhancement and the highest EL was attained in 5.5 ds.m -1 and 60%FC. Similarly, the highest MDA and Na content have been obtained in the interaction effect of 5.5 ds.m -1 NaCl×60% FC. Conversely, the plants exposed to drought and salinity, indicated lower RWC and K content by severity-dependent changes. Overall, to produce Jacaranda seedlings in tropical and sub tropical nurseries, one should carefully use non-saline water and soil.
