In religious texts, the vice of negligence has been considered the most harmful enemy, the most destructive agent of human knowledge and character, and the mother of moral vices; Because it can be the source of other corruption and moral problems. For this purpose, Hazrat Ali (a.s.) being aware of this fact, in various positions of Nahj al-Balaghe, has addressed the nature of this vice with the language of analogy and argument, and has described its negative consequences as a warning for the ignorant and as an admonition for the knowledgeable. The present article with a descriptive-analytical method, while analyzing and explaining this vice, describes its corruptions, the way to overcome this moral dilemma and avoid it. According to the findings of the research, negligence and ignorance, like many moral vices, is a multi-level trait that can be considered to have different types. Among its types, we can mention unavoidable, excused, reprehensible, accidental, continuous and double neglect, the most extreme of which is self-forgetfulness. The factors that cause and sustain reprehensible negligence are classified into cognitive and meta-cognitive (psychological) factors. Alienation, lack of determination, unsuccessful efforts, drowning in lusts and instincts, and discouragement are the consequences of negligence. The right strategy for getting out of careless life consists of several components; including thinking, determination and seriousness, diligence, mindfulness and awareness, and dedication to divine remembrance. The practical consequence of this writing is the prevention of moral vices and their treatment, preventing careless living and moral fall.
