Background: Many studies have shown that H2S protects the gastric mucosa on different models of stress but till now there are few studies about the effects of H2S on gastric acid secretion. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the role of autonomic nervous system in mediating the inhibitory effect of hydrogen sulfide donor (NaHS) on stimulated gastric acid secretion in rats. Results: NaHS decreased carbachol-induced gastric acid secretion (p<0.05). The inhibitory effect of NaHS on gastric acid secretion in vagotomized rats was higher than in reserpinized rats.
